Protocol - Reproductive History - Male

Add to My Toolkit
Description

The male participant is asked whether he has ever fathered a pregnancy. For each pregnancy he reports, he is asked his age at the time, whether the pregnancy was planned, and the birth outcome.

Specific Instructions

If the participant answers "no" to question 1, the protocol is deemed complete.

Below is a definition from the Mayo Clinic website that may assist researchers in using the Toolkit:

Ectopic pregnancy: Pregnancy begins with a fertilized egg. Normally, the fertilized egg attaches itself to the lining of the uterus. With an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized egg implants somewhere else. An ectopic pregnancy nearly always occurs in one of the tubes that carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus (fallopian tubes). This type of ectopic pregnancy is known as a tubal pregnancy. Rarely, an ectopic pregnancy occurs in the abdomen, ovary, or neck of the uterus (cervix).

Personnel and Training Required

The Longitudinal Investigation of Fertility and the Environment (LIFE) Study is an interviewer-administered survey. The interviewer must be trained to conduct personal interviews with individuals from the general population. The interviewer must be trained and found to be competent (i.e., tested by an expert) at the completion of personal interviews. The interviewer should be trained to prompt participants further if a "don’t know" response is provided.
