1. Have you ever taken estrogen ("female hormones") for symptoms of menopause (the change of life) or for other reasons?

2. The most frequently used estrogen is oral Premarin®. Have you ever taken Premarin® by mouth (as pills)?

Females aged 21 years and older, current and former public school teachers or administrators who participate in the California State Teachers Retirement System (STRS)*

*While this protocol was used in a study of California women, the Cancer Working Group deems it appropriate to use with women aged 18 years old and above.

Selection Rationale

This protocol was selected because it obtains detailed information of the most frequently used female hormones: estrogen (Premarin®) and progesterone (Provera®).

Measure to assess use of the hormones estrogen and progesterone

Purpose

Estrogen and progesterone use has been linked to cancer risk. Assessing use of these hormones will help quantify their association with either increased or decreased risk of cancer.
