Eating Disorders Screener #120600
Definition: A questionnaire to assess eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, which is a refusal to maintain normal weight, and bulimia nervosa characterized by episodes of binge eating followed by vomiting, use of laxatives, or fasting (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). Purpose: This measure is used to screen an individual for the presence of an eating disorder. Eating disorders are more prevalent among women in industrialized nations and range from 0.5% for anorexia nervosa to 3% for bulimia nervosa. Eating disorders are accompanied by unhealthy attitudes about body shape and weight and co-occur with a number of other disorders including depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, anxiety disorders and personality disorders.
