Description
This protocol includes seven self-administered questions from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Respondents answer questions regarding the use of a needle to inject drugs not prescribed by a doctor.

Definition
This measure is a questionnaire to assess whether a respondent has ever used a needle to inject drugs not prescribed by a physician.
Purpose
This measure can be used to determine whether the participant has injected nonprescription drugs in his or her lifetime. Needles shared by injection drug users can transmit infectious diseases.
