This protocol assesses exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) during childhood and in adulthood at home, at work, and in social settings. The duration of ETS exposure is collected in hours per day and years for each setting. In addition, there is a question about current ETS exposure.

Definition

Measure to determine exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS)

Purpose

Exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) increases risk of lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, and perhaps other cancers. To evaluate the role of tobacco exposure in any gene/environment interactions, an assessment of ETS should be made.
